Welcome to our list of outstanding time lapse videos in December 2020. Every month, we honour outstanding projects and show these masterpieces to as many time lapse enthusiasts as possible. We pick videos for their unique shots, outstanding quality or innovative editing.
Denver Drone All Day Hyperlapse
Winter Solstice
The first project on our list of outstanding time lapse videos in December 2020 is a highly experimental project by photographer Armando Martinez. He managed to create a drone hyperlapse over a whole day, starting before sunrise and lasting until shortly after sunset. For this project, he planned the route for his hyperlapse meticulously beforehand. As a result, he was able to capture the sunrise as well as the sunset. Between these two highlights, he took short breaks to change the DJI Mavic 2 Pro's batteries an unbelievable 27 times!
For us it was a no-brainer to include this project on our list because of its highly innovative character.
Experience Ilulissat, Greenland
It is beginning to seem like everything time lapse photographer Rob Withworth touches turns to gold. And his latest project "Experience Ilulissat, Greenland" is no exception. By doing this project, Rob was able to fulfil a big goal of his: shooting the fascinating landscapes of Greenland. Rob had to face extreme weather conditions, like filming temperatures reaching a high (not low) of -25°C / -13°F and dropping as low as -45°C / -49°F. But his Nikon cameras handled the conditions perfectly.
Rob is known for his seamless transitions between scenes, and he managed to pull off yet another piece with cleverly hidden cuts between locations. Well done!
Tiempo
Barcelona Timelapse Video
Jordi de Temple is a Spanish photographer based in Barcelona. In "Tiempo", he created a beautiful time lapse video telling the story of the transience of time.
It wasn't only the beautiful, high-quality shots of Barcelona that made us select this video as an outstanding time lapse video of December 2020. Jordi also proved that he has a great sense for editing by using different tempos for his cuts.
The Cloud Palace
6K London Timelapse Film
Matthew Vandeputte recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of his and moved into an apartment with a view. Consequently, he created a whole time lapse video without even leaving his apartment (which is a huge advantage during a global pandemic and constant lockdown).
A time lapse video shot from only one point of view might sound boring at first, but this video is not about one specific location (which on its own is a pretty sight already). Above all, this video, as the name suggests, is about some very interesting skies. Beautiful colours, mesmerising cloud formations, storms rolling over London and some insane close-up shots of the moon – this video has it all!
