In the latest update to TimelapseRobot, we’ve introduced a feature that many users have been asking for: Image Rotation. This functionality allows users to automatically rotate incoming images by 90, 180, or 270 degrees. If you’ve ever needed to mount your camera at an angle or upside down, this new feature simplifies the process, ensuring your images are aligned without any extra work.
Why You Might Need Image Rotation
Cameras don’t always get mounted in a straightforward way, especially on projects like construction site documentation, landscape timelapses, or other complex setups where positioning options are limited. When cameras are positioned at unconventional angles—sideways or even upside down—it often means time spent manually rotating images during post-processing.
The Image Rotation feature addresses this problem directly, allowing you to configure the rotation of your images right from the start. This can be particularly helpful if you're managing multiple cameras, each mounted at different angles. Instead of having to manually adjust the images for each camera individually, the rotation feature ensures that all incoming images are automatically aligned correctly. This saves significant time and effort, making it easier to manage and review footage from multiple cameras quickly and efficiently without dealing with misaligned images.
How to Use Image Rotation
The Image Rotation option is found under the Image Manipulation section within the setup of each camera. Once you're in the settings, you can choose from the available rotation options: 90 degrees, 180 degrees, or 270 degrees. Once you select an option, all incoming images from now on will be automatically rotated to the correct orientation. This can save a lot of time, especially in setups where cameras aren’t in their standard upright position.
Practical Applications
This feature is designed with practicality in mind. If you’ve ever worked with a setup where mounting space is tight or awkward, you know how frustrating it can be to deal with improperly aligned images. By automating the rotation process, Image Rotation ensures you get correctly aligned images right from the start, reducing the need for later adjustments.
How to Access This Feature
The Image Rotation feature is already available to all users. To enable it, go to your camera settings, find the Image Manipulation section, and select the degree of rotation that fits your setup. Whether you're working on a long-term project or setting up a quick shoot, this feature can help streamline your workflow.
